As the eldest of four children, born of a Jersey Bean and a Lancashire lass, life was never going to be boring. Our parents met during WW2 and married towards the end in 1945.
Our mother thought she had died and gone to heaven moving from the mills, cobbled streets and rain of Stockport, to the sun and sand of Jersey.
Fast forward 10 years and Father’s ambition sees us reluctantly uprooted from Jersey, settling, (or rather not allowed to settle) in quick succession to Maidstone, where my sister was born, then Whitley Bay, Oxford and finally Glasgow, where Father dumped us in favour of his secretary and moved to Edinburgh.
But that’s all in the future. I’m going to add small essays to this section from time to time, starting with our parents wartime courtship and marriage.
